Sue Vant Hof

After graduating with her BA in Physical Education at ASU, Sue began her 34 year teaching career at Hartford Elementary, then went on to open four other elementary schools including Frye, Humphrey, Sanborn, and retiring from Ryan Elementary in 2010.

Sue was an exemplary P.E. teacher who taught her students to embrace activity and healthy lifestyles while making P. E. something to look forward to.  She established successful running clubs at each of her schools encouraging her "kids" to find a life-long love of fitness and health.

Sue would enter students in track and field events including The Hershey Meet, Gilbert Days, and Frank Kush Fun Run, with her signature motto "Participation is Victory in Itself!"  Accordingly both the Hershey & Gilbert Days events have established a Sue Vant Hof award which goes to the school that engages the most children in participation.

Sue taught her students the meaning of sharing and giving by fund raising events such as Jump Rope for Heart, Canine Companions for Independence, Az. Humane Society and the Phoenix Suns community outreach programs.  In recognition of Sue's "passion" for all those she cared about, especially the children, she was awarded The Arizona Governor's Physical Educator of the Year in 1996.

The service Sue rendered so freely has been an inspiration to us all to try a little harder to be a little better!
